グランマモーゼズの多くの言葉は名言として語り継がれている。英語環境で検索したところ、最初に挙げた言葉が一番有名らしい。
しかし、個人的には以下の言葉たちが、絵画展の会場で私の心を捉え、そしていまも響き続けている。
I have written my life in small sketches, a little today, a little yesterday... I look back on my life a good day's work, it was done and I feel satisfied with it. I made the best out of what life offered.
Even now I am not old. I never think of it, and yet I am a grandmother to eleven grandchildren.
I would never sit back in a rocking chair, waiting for someone to help me.
People should take time to be happy.
Memory is a painter. Painting's not important. The important thing is keepin' busy.
What a strange thing is memory, and hope; one looks backward, the other forward.
高齢者とよばれる65歳を迎える今、たぶん80代で語ったであろうグランマモーゼズの言葉たちは、まさにこれからの人生の道しるべ。
モーゼズおばあちゃん、ありがとう！
最後におもわず肩透かしを食らったような、くすりとほほ笑んでしまうグランマの言葉：
If I hadn' started painting, I would have raised chickens.
ーーこの淡々と自然体なところが、いつまでも愛され続ける理由なのだろう。（養鶏を始めないで、絵筆を持ってくださってよかった～）
